GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a defensive battle with strong efforts in the circle, Appalachian State softball dropped a 3-0 loss to UNCG on Sunday, Feb. 25. The Mountaineers were 1-4 this weekend, bringing their overall record to 4-10.
Julianna Roupas held the Spartans through two scoreless innings with no hits. The Spartans scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run homer to centerfield.
Katie Williford entered the circle for the Mountaineers at the start of the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and bases loaded, UNCG hit a line drive to White at third base to get out of the inning.
Roupas and Williford each allowed only two hits throughout the game. Roupas walked three batters, and Williford walked one.
Heather Josey ruined Alicia Bazonski's no-hitter with a single to the second baseman in the top of the second inning.
Megan Walker had the second hit of the game with a single to the shortstop.
Alisha Josey doubled with a shot to the left centerfield fence in the top of the sixth inning. H. Josey, Walker and A. Josey earned the only three hits from the Mountaineers against the Spartans.
App State continues play next weekend in the 2018 home opener on Saturday, March 3, for a double header against Tennessee Tech starting at 1 p.m.
