Emily Fedders Named Google Cloud Academic All-America

BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State cross country and distance runner Emily Fedders (Beckley, W. Va./Woodrow Wilson) has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America second team in cross country/track & field by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Fedders is the 14th Academic All-America selection in Appalachian State history and first since Stephen Chapman of men's soccer earned second-team honors in fall 2016. In addition, Fedders is the sixth female in App State history to earn the award and first student-athlete to do so in cross country/track & field.

The quantitative geoscience major carries a perfect 4.0 GPA and enjoyed a standout 2017-18 junior season in both cross country and track.

During the cross country season, she posted four top-10 finishes in six races. She earned her second consecutive All-Sun Belt accolade after posting a 13th-place finish at the Sun Belt Championships in 18:10.10, helping the Mountaineers finish second as a team. At the Mountain to Sea Open in September, Fedders navigated the 5k course in 18:03.00. The time sits in a tie for eighth place by a junior in program history.

In the indoor track season, Fedders posted two top-15 finishes. She recorded a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the Thundering Herd Invitational in a season-best 18:20.84 and was 12th in the 3,000-meter run at the VMI Winter Relays with a season-best time of 10:45.09.

During the outdoor season, she earned All-Sun Belt accolades in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line third overall in 38:33.74. Earlier in the season, she clocked a PR in the event at the Charlotte Invitational, finishing third in 37:10.92. Fedders also recorded a 12th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the Sun Belt Championships in 18:27.04.
