ATLANTA, Ga. – The Sports Video Group (SVG) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) has selected App State Athletics' video "The Journey Back: The
Matt Brill Story" as a finalist for the
2018 SVG College Sports Media Awards.
"The Journey Back: The
Matt Brill Story," which was released in June 2017, has been nominated for Outstanding Special Feature in the Collegiate Athletics category along with nine other nominees from Duke, Michigan State, Princeton, St. John's, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, San Francisco, Wyoming and Virginia Tech.
The feature tells the story of the return of former App State baseball pitcher
Matt Brill, who recovered from Tommy John surgery in 2015 and went on to be drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. The feature was written, produced and edited by
Brian Lewis, director of digital content for App State Athletics, with assistance from strategic communications intern Andrew Clausen.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and announced at the ninth annual College Sports Media Awards ceremony Thursday at the SVG College Summit at Atlanta's Omni Hotel at CNN Center. The ceremony is being hosted by Andy Katz, the former ESPN reporter who now works with NCAA.com and the Big Ten Network.
