Summerlin Voted All-Sun Belt by League Coaches

NEW ORLEANS – Following a stellar sophomore season capped by a runner-up finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Appalachian State's Tripp Summerlin was voted to the All-Sun Belt second team by the league's men's golf coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Summerlin finished his 2017-18 season with four top-two finishes in 11 tournaments. He was first at the Sept. 25-26 Patriot Intercollegiate, second at the Oct. 2-3 Cleveland State Invitational and second at the March 11-12 Cape Fear National Intercollegiate.

A native of Summerfield, N.C., Summerlin is the first App State golfer to finish top 10 at the Sun Belt Championship and led the Mountaineers to their best team finish since joining the league. He was the only golfer among 60 in Sandestin to shoot below par all three rounds of stroke play (70-70-70).

"Tripp played solid for us all year," first-year head coach Bo Redman said. "He makes the game look easy. He is also a great student and an even better young man. We could not be happier for him."

After he won the Patriot Intercollegiate and led App to its first team tournament title since 2014, he became App's first ever Sun Belt Golfer of the Week. He shot a season-best 67 on two occasions, and his low 54 was a 209 at the Patriot Intercollegiate.

Summerlin is the second App State men's golfer to be named All-Sun Belt. Patrick Moriarty was a second-team selection in 2016.
