BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (10-7) will face archrival Georgia Southern (10-6) and Troy (6-10) this weekend in a Sun Belt POD hosted by Georgia State.
The Mountaineers will face the Eagles on Saturday at 12 p.m. before ending the weekend against the Trojans on Sunday at 9 a.m.
App State's previous match against Gardner-Webb was canceled after the Black and Gold had captured the doubles point.
Machado is a team-best 10-4 this season for her second campaign with at least 10 victories in singles competition and is currently on a three-match win streak, while
Rebecca Morse is also on a three-match win streak for a 9-3 mark.
Teodora Sevo is the other Mountaineer with 10 wins as she is 10-5. It's the first time since the 2015 slate that multiple athletes have won 10 matches in singles.
Taylor Bygrave and
María José Zacarias on well on their way to double-digit victories as both have nine wins. Appalachian is 55-41 (.573) in singles.
Sevo and Machado are an App-best 11-4 while
Heidi Swope/Zacarias are 10-4. The two tandems have helped App to a 31-14 (.689) record in doubles competition. Sandra Anglejö and
Emily Gaskins have chipped in with a solid 6-6 record in their first season in the High Country.
Scouting The Eagles
GS has won its past three matches and is 6-5 away from Statesboro. The Eagles are 0-2 in Sun Belt action.
Scouting Troy
The Trojans are 6-10 but have won their past three matches including a win over Georgia State. Pei Ju Hseih and Matea Mihaljevic are both 7-6 to lead the team in singles action, while three other athletes have at least five wins. Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina lead the team in doubles action boasting a solid 8-4 mark. Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky are second with six wins.
The Apps will conclude the regular season with a 1 p.m. match against ETSU in Johnson City next Saturday.
