BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis aims to snap a three-match skid on Friday at 1 p.m. against Campbell (11-5) for Senior Day.
The match will take place at Varsity Courts behind Kidd Brewer Stadium.
App State will recognize
Scott Webster and
Alexander Free before the match starts. Webster has been a four-year mainstay for App, where he is a stellar 58-16 in singles and 49-21 in doubles action. He's garnered postseason Sun Belt recognition all four years including a Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Award in 2015. Scott has been successful off the court as well, where he helped the team win the inaugural Mountaineer Cup, exemplifying App State's core values. He is also the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. This season, Scott is a team-best 13-4 in singles and 12-4 in doubles with
Milo Bargeron.
Free has been a part of the team for two seasons, competing in more than 10 doubles matches and five singles contests. He has participated in seven doubles contests in the spring, which is a career high. Free has done a great job being a leader off the court.
Appalachian is coming off a narrow 4-3 setback to Winthrop in its previous contest. The Mountaineers won the doubles point but fell in four of six singles contests. App faced a 3-1 deficit before
Ben Webster, and his brother won their singles matches to tie the contest at 3-all. But Winthrop captured the final match to secure the win. Ben joins his brother as the two Mountaineers to reach 10 wins in singles play.
Alex Pavkovich is next in line to reach 10 wins as he boasts a .500 mark of 9-9, while Bargeron (8 wins) and
Blake Carter (6 wins) rounds out the leaders. App State is 56-51 (.523) in singles play.
Scott and Bargeron are a solid 12-4 in doubles play while Ben and Pakvovich are 12-5 to lead the way.
Campbell is a solid 8-1 over its past nine matches highlighted by a five-match win streak. The Camels are 7-4 away from their home court. Dustin Werner is 10-3 in singles action to lead the Camels, while Gerard Soler is 8-7. CU boasts a 47-45 mark (.511) in that area. Werner and Lorenz Schwab are 8-2 as a pairing and Jonathan O'Neal/Sola are 8-6. Both duos lead a Campbell squad that is 25-17 (.595) in doubles.
App State will return to action on Saturday, April 14 against Davidson on the road at 1 p.m.
