BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State softball heads to Statesboro, Ga., for the final road series of the regular season against Georgia Southern. With just six Sun Belt games left in two remaining series, the Mountaineers look to improve their record.
App State most recently split with Gardner-Webb, a 28-24 Big South opponent, for their final midweek nonconference matchup.
The Apps are within five conference wins of the Georgia Southern Eagles. As former SoCon rivals, App State is 13-44 overall against Georgia Southern.
Last season when the Eagles came to Boone, the Mountaineers held them to a scoreless ball game through the full seven innings in game one of the series. In the top of the eighth, the Eagles scored two on a home run to secure the win. The Apps dropped the final two games of the series 1-10 and 2-11.
Scouting the Eagles
Georgia Southern is 24-22 overall with a conference record of 8-13, ranked eighth in the Sun Belt. At home, the Eagles are 9-5 with five wins being Sun Belt opponents.
The Eagles have taken series victories from Troy, South Alabama and ULM. The Eagles have not earned a Sun Belt series since the weekend of March 24-25 against the Warhawks. Both Texas State and Coastal Carolina swept the Eagles, but the Eagles picked up a win from national-ranked Louisiana and UTA. App State and Georgia State are their two remaining Sun Belt series.
Hannah Farrell, a junior infielder, averages .326 at the plate to lead the Eagles. She has eight home runs to lead the category as well.
Kierra Camp and Rylee Waldrep have split time in the circle for Georgia Southern. Camp has 127 innings while Waldrep has 119.2 innings. Each have a 3.03 and 3.33 ERA respectively and have combined for 22 of the 24 wins. Kaylee Ramos has the other two wins on the season in her 50 innings.
