NEW ORLEANS - Appalachian State University women's tennis has been seeded seventh in the 2018 Sun Belt Championship held in Peachtree City, Ga. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers will face No. 10 seed Texas State at 11:30 a.m. (ET) in the first round on Thursday. The winner will advance to the quarterfinal round against No. 2 seed Georgia State at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
App State is 0-3 in the Sun Belt Championship since joining the conference with all three results via 4-3 finish. App State will look for its first-ever Sun Belt Tournament win on Thursday. In head coach
Blake Mosley's second season, App has doubled its win total to a 10-10 record (5-19 in 2017).
Three Mountaineers have posted at least 10 wins with
Teodora Sevo owning a team-best 11-7 mark in singles play. Both
María José Zacarias and
Melissa Machado have won 10 contests.
Taylor Bygrave matched her career best with nine victories and
Rebecca Morse registered a personal-high nine wins in singles. App is 59-54 (.522) in singles.
The Apps have been dominant in doubles with Sevo and Machado boasting a 13-5 record, while
Heidi Swope and Zacarias are 11-6 in 17 matches. The Black and Gold are 34-19 (.642) in doubles.
Texas State is 4-13 on the season with a 1-3 mark in conference action. The Bobcats won their first-round matchup last season against Louisiana before falling to ULM in the quarterfinals.
Three Bobcats have four wins in singles play to lead the way, while Ana Perez and J. Navajo-Melendez are 8-5 in doubles play to pace the Bobcats.
