Men's Tennis Earns No. 7 Seed for Sun Belt Championships

NEW ORLEANS - Appalachian State University men's tennis (11-10) earned the seventh seed for the 2018 Sun Belt Championship held in Peachtree City, Ga. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

App State will face second-seeded Louisiana on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of No. 3 seed South Alabama and No. 6 seed UT Arlington on Saturday at 3 p.m. 

The Mountaineers finished the regular season with an 11-10 record and are coming off a thrilling 4-3 win over Davidson to snap a four-game skid. App State is 1-3 in the Sun Belt Tournament with the lone win coming in 2016 against then-No. 3 seed Troy. 

Last season, the Apps fell to No. 2 seed South Alabama in the opening round.

Scott Webster boasts a team-best 15-4 singles record, which the 15 wins are the second most in his career and the highest since his freshman campaign. The senior Australian and Milo Bargeron are 14-4 as the top duo in the lineup. Scott and Bargeron are a stellar 23-7 as a duo since last season. Ben Webster is the other Mountaineer with at least 10 singles wins, as he is 11-9 on the year. Ben and Alex Pavkovich have also been a formidable duo with a 14-5 showing as the No. 2 tandem in the lineup. 

Pavkovich won a career-high nine matches in the regular season, while Bargeron has eight victories. App State is 61-58 (.513) in singles action this season and an excellent 34-20 (.630) in doubles. 

Scouting Louisiana
Louisiana is 18-9 and 1-1 in the Sun Belt this season and is 7-1 over its last eight matches going into the tournament. The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a 4-1 setback to then-No. 61 Georgia State. Six different athletes have at least 10 singles victories with Elio Lago and Pearse Dolan each boasting a team-high 17 wins. Louisiana is 92-55 (.626) in singles. Pierce Gilheany and Dolan are 10-2 in doubles to lead the Ragin' Cajuns, while Arthur Libaud and Jamie Fraser are 9-6. In doubles, Louisiana is 31-20 (.608).
