CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Appalachian State women's track and field team competed at the Charlotte Invitational, hosted by the University of Charlotte.
In the pole vault, junior
Hannah Emery (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Lakeview), junior
Sofia San Miguel (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and junior
Lainey Hunnicutt (South Mecklenberg) all cleared 11-11.75, which placed them in a tie for second. The mark also tied a PR for San Miguel and represents new season-bests for both Emery and Hunnicutt.
The 4x100-meter relay tandem of senior
Chelsey Hargrave (McLeansville, N.C./Williams), junior
K'Lynn Beal (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton), freshman Samra Gibson (Clayton, N.C./Corinth-Holders) and freshman
Jessica Dixon (Louisburg, N.C./Broughton) placed third in 47.23 seconds.
Hargrave clocked a new PR in the 100-meter dash in 12.22 seconds and Dixon would also record a new PR in the 400-meter run in 58.23 seconds.
The 5,000-meter run saw freshman
Samantha Kolor (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) cross third in 18:12.58 and freshman
Sarah Hajnos (Apex, N.C./Apex) place sixth in 18:56.30.
In the 100-meter hurdles, junior
Imani Chapman (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) was fourth in a PR time of 14.24 seconds. She also placed eighth on the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.36.
The 800-meter run saw freshman
Ann Mosely Whitsett (Homewood, Ala./Homewood) and freshman
Jennae Jacob (Waxhaw, N.C./Marvin Ridge) both post new PR's in 2:23.87 and 2:28.89, respectively.
In the 4x400-meter relay, senior
Phylissa Greeley (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic), junior
Molly Pusateri (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas), Jacob and Whitsett placed seventh in 4:09.89.
On Friday, junior
Katelyn Butler (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post) crossed the finish line first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:52.73. Senior
Hana Ratcliffe (Durham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts) finished second in 11:07.83 and junior
Emily Fedders (Beckley, W. Va./Woodrow Wilson) placed third in 11:26.06.
Also competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase were freshman
Annika Merkh (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) and
Casey Turro (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest), who finished with times of 11:39.78 and 12:19.61, respectively.
Senior
Jessica Ricks (Rocky Mount, N.C./Northern Nash) recorded a fourth place finish in the javelin, with a PR toss of 127-0.
In the hammer throw, senior
Samantha Welborn (Booneville, N.C./Starmount) placed ninth with a mark of 157-06. Senior
Ashley Muschiatti (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) and senior
Amber Daniel (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) both recorded a new PR in the event, with marks of 153-11 and 144-0, respectively.
Sophomore
Sarah Venable (Cary, N.C./Cary) posted a new PR in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.04.
The Mountaineers will compete again next weekend at the Duke Invitational.
