Katelyn Butler (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Appalachian State women's track & field team on Day 1 of the Charlotte Invitational.
Butler crossed the finish line in 10:52.73. Senior
Hana Ratcliffe (Durham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts) finished second in 11:07.83 and junior
Emily Fedders (Beckley, W. Va./Woodrow Wilson) placed third in 11:26.06.
Also competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase were freshman
Annika Merkh (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) and
Casey Turro (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest), who finished with times of 11:39.78 and 12:19.61, respectively.
Senior
Jessica Ricks (Rocky Mount, N.C./Northern Nash) recorded a fourth place finish in the javelin, with a PR toss of 127-0.
In the hammer throw, senior
Samantha Welborn (Booneville, N.C./Starmount) placed ninth with a mark of 157-06. Senior
Ashley Muschiatti (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) and senior
Amber Daniel (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) both recorded a new PR in the event, with marks of 153-11 and 144-0, respectively.
Sophomore
Sarah Venable (Cary, N.C./Cary) posted a new PR in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.04.
Day 2 of the Charlotte Invitational will see the field events begin with the 110-meter hurdles in the decathlon at 9 a.m., with running events starting with the 4x100-meter relays at noon.
