BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's tennis (10-10) will close out the regular season with a road match against a tough Davidson (13-5) quad on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Due to inclement weather coming into the Boone area on Sunday, the Apps' match against Coastal Carolina is cancelled.
Appalachian is coming off a close, 4-3 loss on Senior Day to Campbell. The team honored seniors
Scott Webster and Alex Free, both of whom notched straight-set singles victories.
The Mountaineers won three straight matches in 10 days in March, knocking off Bethune-Cookman, the College of Charleston and The Citadel.
Appalachian has suffered a pair of close defeats in April, dropping matches to Winthrop and Campbell 4-3. App clinched the doubles point in both contests.
Even with the recent defeats, the Mountaineers maintain an impressive doubles record. The pairings of
Milo Bargeron and
Scott Webster and
Alex Pavkovich and
Ben Webster highlight App's 32-20 mark in doubles competition. Both duos have 13 victories with an 8-2 record in their last 10 matches.
In singles, Scott leads the team with a 14-3 record. The senior has been dominant all season in the No. 1 spot, notching nine victories in his last 10 singles matches.
Scouting Davidson
Davidson is 13-5 this season and is coming off of a 6-1 road victory over UNC Greensboro. The Wildcats have won seven out of their previous eight matches. Davidson has five players with over 10 victories in singles: Shamael Chaudhry, Axel Fries and Artem Khrapko, Thomas Mason and Jack Riazzi. In singles, the Wildcats have compiled a 68-37 record. They also hold a 26-18 mark in doubles.
