BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (7-4) seeks a fifth straight win over Savannah State (0-5) on Monday afternoon in Savannah, Ga.
A win on Monday would give the Black and Gold their first five-match win streak since the 2013 campaign. The Mountaineers downed the Highlanders of Radford, 6-1, on Friday to stay undefeated at home with a 3-0 record.
Heidi Swope had a solid afternoon where she partnered up with
María José Zacarias to knock off previously unbeaten Drousile Dzeubou and Lotti Meszaros, 6-2, to clinch the double point. Swope later cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph to seal the win for the Mountaineers.
Not only did Swope showcase an impressive outing, but Zacarias won her fifth straight match as the No.1 in the lineup to extend her record to 7-3.
Teodora Sevo pushed her win streak to four and a 7-3 showing after Friday. The combo of Zacarias and Sevo is 14-6 as the No. 1 and No.2 in the lineup, respectively.
Rebecca Morse is on a hot streak with four wins in a row, giving the junior a 5-2 record and already one win away from matching last season's win mark.
Melissa Machado is also on the same pace at 6-3 and a victory away from matching last season's total.
Taylor Bygrave is 6-4 this season and continues her consistent success in the three spot.
During the 4-0 stretch, Appalachian is an impressive 21-3 (.875) in singles play while before the win streak, the Apps were just 13-24 in singles competition.
The Mountaineers double play continues to dominate with a 20-8 record. Machado and Sevo are a dangerous duo with a 9-2 mark and five straight wins. The nine victories are the most for a pairing since Jennifer Ansari/Ellie Linsell in 2012 when they won 12 matches together. Swope and Zacarias are 7-2 as a pairing and have won seven in a row since starting the season 0-2.Â
Savannah State has fallen in all five matches by via score of 7-0. The Tigers boast a young roster with five of six players being underclassmen.Â
Appalachian will return home for a pivotal matchup against UAB on Tuesday, March 13 at 2 p.m.Â
