GREENSBORO, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (10-7) fell to UNCG (7-6) in a 6-1 decision on Tuesday afternoon at UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers weren't able to get anything going against the hosts. UNCG claimed all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests. Four of the six singles matches either went to a tiebreaker or a third frame.
Milo Bargeron highlighted the Apps' day with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) triumph as the No. 2 in the lineup over Marcus Vidgren. Bargeron moves to .500 on the season in singles play with an 8-8 mark.
UNCG claimed the first two doubles matches for the 1-0 lead, while
Scott Webster and Bargeron suffered a tiebreaking 7-6 (7-3) defeat to Connor Thompson and Nico Grewe.
Blake Carter fell to Daniel Hammarstedt in straight sets as the No. 5 in the book, which gave UNCG a 2-0 edge. Pavkovich put forth a solid effort but dropped both sets including a 7-6 (7-5) heartbreaker to his counterpart.
App State wouldn't quit despite being down 3-0, as the final four contests were tight.
Alex Brea fell in three sets to Ian Melnik, 6-4, 2-6, 5-7, before Bargeron put the Black and Gold on the board.
Ben Webster fought back from a one-set deficit to force a tie-breaking set but was downed 6-3 in the third frame to Ollie Palmer.
Scott was the last to finish and claimed the opening set of the match but dropped the final two stanzas.
Appalachian will look for a bounce-back win against its archrival, Georgia Southern on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Statesboro.
