BOONE, N.C. - The surging Appalachian State University men's tennis team (10-6) seeks a fourth straight win on Tuesday when it faces UNCG (6-6) at 2 p.m.
Appalachian had the week off after sweeping College of Charleston and The Citadel last weekend on the road. App State has won its past three road matches following a 2-5 start away from Boone. The win against The Citadel gave the Black and Gold its fifth straight season with at least 10 wins.
App State is 52-38 (.578) in singles play, which is led by
Scott Webster. The senior is 11-3 and playing his best tennis of the season as he is riding a seven-match win streak going into Tuesday. Closing in on 10 wins is
Alex Pavkovich and
Ben Webster with each athlete boasting a 9-6 record. The nine wins for Pavkovich is a personal high while Ben would be the second freshman in as many seasons (
Milo Bargeron) to reach double-digit victories. Bargeron is third on the team with seven wins, and
Blake Carter is having a solid freshman campaign with a 6-4 mark.
In doubles play, Scott and Bargeron are 10-3 and reached 10 wins in a season for the first time as a duo. The pairing is now 19-6 since partnering up in 2017. Ben and Pavkovich are 9-5 to round out the leaders.
UNCG has dropped three of its last four matches following a 4-1 setback to East Carolina last Wednesday. The Spartans have been a tough out at home as all six wins have come on their court. Connor Thompson and Ollie Palmer each have eight wins to pace UNCG in singles play. The Spartans are 36-29 (.554) this season. Jack Burkill and Marcus Vidgren are 4-2 in doubles to lead the Spartans in doubles competition.
Appalachian will return to action on Saturday when it faces archrival Georgia Southern at 12 p.m. in Statesboro.
