CONWAY, S.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (10-7, 0-2 SBC) started off hot capturing the doubles point, but it wasn't enough in a 4-2 setback to Coastal Carolina (12-5, 2-1 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
App State won the doubles point, but the Chanticleers would pick up four of the five finished singles matches to claim the win.
Sandra Anglesjö and
Emily Gaskins started the Black and Gold off to a strong start with their sixth victory of the season after a 6-4 triumph over Jessie Mount and Rylie Cox.
Finishing off the doubles portion and giving App a 1-0 lead was
Heidi Swope and
María José Zacarias, who downed Somer Dalla-Bona/Sara Bondar, 6-4. The win gives Swope and Zacarias their 10th win of the season as a tandem, boasting a 10-4 mark.
With the 1-0 lead and the momentum, the Chanticleers won the next two matches to take a 2-1 advantage.
Taylor Bygrave fell to Dalla-Boner, 6-2, 6-0 before Swope fell to Bondar, 6-4, 6-2.
