BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State softball travels to Lafayette, La. this weekend to face nationally-ranked Louisiana in the second weekend of Sun Belt Conference play. The three-game series begins on Saturday, March 17, with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. ET. The series finale is set for Sunday, March 18 at 12 p.m. ET.
The last matchup between the Mountaineers and the Ragin' Cajuns was during the 2016 campaign. Louisiana swept the series on their home turf with three five-inning wins.
The Mountaineers are coming off of a successful conference-opening weekend, finishing 2-1 against the ULM Warhawks. In the first weekend of Sun Belt play, the Mountaineers already tied the number of conference wins from both the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Alisha Josey stands out among the Apps on offense. She batted .500 this weekend in ten at bats with a double and two home runs in the series finale. She contributed nine RBIs of the team's 20 total runs against ULM.
Baylee Morton manufactured two runs with her homer in the bottom of the seventh to tie up the score before
Jenny Dodd produced the walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.
Kenzie Longanecker pitched two complete games against ULM this past weekend for a total of 15 innings. Both games resulted in wins for Longanecker. She tops the pitching staff in innings pitched (66) and ERA (2.65).
Scouting the Ragin' Cajuns
Gerry Glasco has led the Ragin' Cajuns to a 15-6 start in his first year as head coach with his most recent win against FIU on Thursday, March 15. Louisiana is 2-1 in the Sun Belt after dropping one to Coastal Carolina in the opening weekend of conference play.
Kara Gremillion maintains the highest batting average on the team at .381 in the top of their lineup. Her speed around the bases has allowed eleven stolen bases in eleven attempts. Casidy Chaumont has four home runs this season, the most for Louisiana.
Sophomore Summer Ellyson reigns the pitching circle for the Ragin' Cajuns. She has pitched 68.1 innings and maintains a 1.74 ERA and 6-3 record. Freshman Casey Dixon follows with 37.1 innings pitched and a 4-1 record.
