BOONE, N.C. - Maryah Sydnor, the former Appalachian State University women's basketball standout, culminated her stellar season by leading the Hørsholm 79ers to a Damefinalen PokalVinder Cup.
Sydnor played a pivotal role in the 79ers' 65-55 victory over SISU, netting a double-double with game highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds while dishing out five assists. Sydnor posted a staggering PER of 30, which was her second-most efficient outing of the season and a plus-15 in the plus/minus column. The 79ers captured their ninth gold cup in the organization's history and the second in the past four seasons.
The Apps' third all-time leading scorer had a breakout season in her second year with Hørsholm, where she led the team in scoring (16.9 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rpg) and plus/minus (13.4) while boasting the highest efficiency at 22.9. Her impressive stat line is among the league's leaders as she is first in the league in plus/minus, third in scoring, fourth in efficiency, fifth in scoring and 13th in assists dishing 2.4 per game.
In 16 games, Sydnor has scored in double figures in 13 contests including seven contests with at least 20 points and 10 double-doubles including a pair of 24-point, 12-rebound performances.
As a team, Sydnor helped the 79ers finish with a silver cup in her first season followed by the title. Hørsholm is 34-10 in two seasons since Sydnor's arrival.
The Radford, Va., native went down in App history as one of the top players of all-time, as she amassed 1,821 points over her college career, ranking third in the App State record books for total career points. She also ranks among App's top-ten lists in free throws (second), field goals (fourth), rebounds (fifth) and steals (tied for seventh).
