Mountaineers Set for Final Road Contest of Regular Season at Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Appalachian State men's basketball team will play its final road contest of the season on Saturday at Little Rock. Tip is set for 6 p.m. EST.

THE SERIES
  • This is the 10th meeting all-time between the two schools, with the Trojans holding a 6-3 edge.
  • App State won the meeting earlier this season in Boone 72-67 in overtime.
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • These two teams met in Boone January 25, with the Mountaineers prevailing in overtime 72-67.
  • O'Showen Williams tallied a team-high 13 points, four rebounds and a team-high six assists.
  • Justin Forrest finished with 10 points and Griffin Kinney tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Isaac Johnson also had 11 rebounds in the win.
  • App State erased an 11-point second half deficit to send the game into overtime. In the extra session, Craig Hinton broke a 65-65 tie with a three-pointer. The Black and Gold would allow allow the Trojans to score two more points and hit four free throws to put the game away.
LAST TIME OUT
  • App State suffered a 82-79 loss at Arkansas State on Thursday evening.
  • Ronshad Shabazz tied his season-high in points (32), field goals made (12), three-pointers made (5), rebounds (5) and tied his career-high in steals (3).
  • Justin Forrest added 14 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Tyrell Johnson tallied 13 points and five boards.
  • The Mountaineers built a 15-point first half lead, only to see the Red Wolves cut the lead to just three at the break. Arkansas State would build a 11-point second half lead, but the Apps were able to tie the game and force overtime.
  • Shabazz broke a 73-73 tie in the overtime session, but Arkansas State was able to counter with seven straight points to take control of the game.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • Appalachian State stands at 12-17 on the season and 7-9 in Sun Belt play. The 7-9 mark is tied for eighth place with Coastal Carolina and Texas State.
  • After his 32-point performance on Thursday, Shabazz now has 558 points on the season, which is tied for the 10th most in single season history.
  • Isaac Johnson has now recorded double digit rebounds in three straight games after pulling down 12 on Thursday. He leads the team, averaging 8.5 rpg.
  • Over his last three contests, Tyrell Johnson has scored in double figures twice and is averaging 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
  • Little Rock dropped to 6-22 on the season and 3-12 in the Sun Belt after dropping a 65-60 home contest to Coastal Carolina on Thursday.
  • Ben Marcus paced the Trojans with a double-double off the bench, tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds...Both Cameron Corcoran and Anthony Black had 11 points.
  • Little Rock features four players averaging over 7.0 ppg, led by Anthony Black (7.5 ppg). Ryan Pippins (7.3 ppg), Camron Reedus (7.0 ppg) and Corcoran (7.0) ppg are also averaging at least 7.0 ppg.
  • Oliver Black leads Little Rock in rebounding, pulling down 6.9 rpg.
