BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior
Chelsey Hargrave (McLeansville, N.C./Williams) earned All-Sun Belt honors to lead the Appalachian State women's track & field team on Day 1 of the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Mountaineers sit in eighth place after the first day. South Alabama concludes the opening day in first with 40 points, Texas State sits second with 38 points and UT Arlington is third with 23 points.
Hargrave posted a second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 19-3.25.

Elisa Sargent (Cary, N.C./Green Hope), freshman
Samara Gibson (Clayton, N.C./Corinth-Holders), freshman
Ann Mosely Whitsett (Homewood, Ala./Homewood) and sophomore
Sarah Venable (Cary, N.C./Cary) placed fifth in 12:10.07.
The 3,000-meter run saw junior
Katelyn Butler (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post) finish eighth in 10:11.07.
App State will be well represented on Day 2 of the championships, seeing five athletes qualify for the finals in their respective events.
Senior
Phylissa Greeley (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) finished fifth in the 800-meter run preliminaries to qualify for the finals.
Freshman
Jessica Dixon (Louisburg, N.C./Broughton) qualified for the finals in the 400-meter run and junior
Imani Chapman (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) qualified in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles after placing second in the prelims.
Gibson and Dixon each qualified for the finals of the 200-meter dash, after finishing seventh and eighth in the preliminaries.
The two-day championships will close out on Tuesday, with the heptathlon beginning at 10 a.m. EST. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. EST with running events starting at 1:30 p.m. EST.
