About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
App State fell to Coastal Carolina in overtime on Saturday, 73-68, following an impressive comeback where the Apps used a 10-0 in the final minutes at the end of regulation.
LaPresha Stanley scored a career-high 24 points with eight rebounds. The freshman scored 11 points in a 3:32 span including a pair of 3-pointers in a 22-second span to tie up the game with 2.8 seconds left.
Lainey Gosnell scored a personal-high on the road with 13 points highlighted by a team-high three 3-pointers.
Bayley Plummer snagged 12 rebounds for her 20th game of at least 10 boards.
What to Watch For
• The Mountaineers are shooting 25.4 percent from beyond the arc over the past three games (0-3). See if App can get back to its shooting ways. The Black and Gold shot 61.1 percent (11-18) in its last home game versus Arkansas State.
• Thursday's game will feature some conference's best young talent with four freshmen (
Tierra Wilson, LaPresha Stanley, Lainey Gosnell, Savannah Jones) in the top 30 in the conference in scoring. Expect one of those four, in particular, the three Mountaineers to have an impact.
• South Alabama, one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the conference, is shooting just 20 percent from deep during its three-game losing streak. App held Thursday's foe to a season-low 2-for-19 from 3-point range. See if the Black and Gold can shut down the Jags' 3-point attack once again.
• In six home conference games (3-3), the Apps are shooting 46.3 percent in the final five minutes of games with just 10 turnovers. Against USA, App shot 2-of-9 down the stretch with three miscues. If it's close, watch if App can finish and close out the game for a win.
• In the last four home games in which App is 3-1,
Bayley Plummer is averaging a double-double at 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor. See if the sophomore center can continue that trend against USA.
