Mountaineers to Take Part in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week

BOONE, N.C. - With the  Sun Belt Conference and the American Cancer Society recently teaming up to create a partnership involving all 12 teams, Appalachian State University women's basketball will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Week and 3-Point Challenge.

For this weekend's home games against Little Rock on Thursday and Arkansas State on Saturday, the coaching staff will sneakers and gold laces in the support for the fight against cancer with over 4,000 college basketball across the country. Suits and Sneakers Week is a nationwide event that unites coaches across the country to raise funds and awareness about the fight against cancer and promotes the American Cancer Society as a source of inspiration and hope for those facing cancer.

In addition, the Apps are set to participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge during the month of February. Fans can pledge a dollar amount for every 3-pointer by their favorite team by clicking HERE while you can find out where your team ranks nationally by going HERE.

Last season, App State was first among women's programs while finishing ninth overall in the nation between both men's and women's basketball programs. Penn State finished first with an estimated $12,154 raised in February. Fellow Sun Belt member, Texas State, finished second among women's basketball programs raking in $2,542 and 12th overall. The Bobcats' men's team was first in the Sun Belt on the men's side.

The Sun Belt raised an impressive $15,662 across the league, which was the third out of all conferences behind only the Big Ten Conference and the ACC.
