BOONE, N.C. -- The Appalachian State women's track & field team won the 14-team Appalachian Invitational on Saturday inside the Holmes Center.
The Mountaineers finished with 176.5 points for the team title. The College of Charleston was second with 72 points and Lenoir-Rhyne finished third with 65 points.
In the 55-meter dash, App State took the top two spots with senior
Chelsey Hargrave (McLeansville, N.C./Williams) crossing first in 7.23 seconds, with
K'Lynn Beal (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) finished second in a personal best time of 7.32 seconds.
Beal also won the long jump with a PR mark of 19-3.25, Hargrave finished second with a distance of 18-9.75 and junior
Ila Mumford (Rural Hill, N.C./Parkland) was third with a mark of 18-7.00.
The 1-mile run saw senior
Phylissa Greeley (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) finish first in 5:16.00, freshman
Annika Merkh (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) finish second in 5:29.93 and freshman
Casey Turro (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest) finish third with a time of 5:34.44.
The 3,000-meter run also saw the Black and Gold claim the top three spots, with freshman
Sarah Hajnos (Apex, N.C./Apex) finishing first in 10:54.55, freshman
Samantha Kolor (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) finishing second with a time of 11:02.85 and senior
Ann Sekutowski (Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine) crossing third in 11:24.87.
Junior
Imani Chapman (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.24 seconds, senior
Hunter Welborn (Booneville, N.C./Starmount) won the high jump clearing 5-6.00 and senior
Amber Daniel (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) captured the weight throw, covering 55-4.75.
In the 300-meter dash, freshman
Jessica Dixon (Louisburg, N.C./Broughton) was second in 41.90 seconds, freshman
Samara Gibson (Clayton, N.C./Corinth-Holders) finished third in 41.94 seconds and freshman
Ann Mosely Whitsett (Homewood, Ala./Homewood) was fourth in 43.27 seconds.
The pole vault saw junior
Sofia San Miguel (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) post a PR of 12-2.50, which placed her second. Junior
Hannah Emery (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Lakeview) was third, clearing 12-2.50.
The Mountaineers will be back at it on January 26 and 27, competing at the Marshall Invitational.
