BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University volleyball (6-10) will open up Sun Belt Conference play at home on Friday, Sept. 29 against Texas State (9-7) at 6:30 p.m. The Mountaineers will then take on UT Arlington (7-8) on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 12:30 p.m.
THE MOUNTAINEERS
So far this season, the Mountaineers are 1-1 in SBC matches. Coming off of a win at Little Rock (3-2) and a loss at Arkansas State (2-3), the Mountaineers look to compete for two more wins this weekend.
Kara Spicer and
Melissa McMath hit the top of the leaderboard in kills with 206 and 203 respectively.
Ashlyn Brown dominates the game in assists with a total of 642, and
Olivia Loeffler contributes with 255 digs.
The Mountaineers' record against Texas State is 3-2 over the past three years in the SBC with their last win (3-0) in 2015. App State is 1-2 (3-6 in sets) with UT Arlington since 2014.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS & MAVERICKS
Both Texas State and UT Arlington are 1-1 in conference play. These programs make for similar competition for the Mountaineers as they both won against Troy and lost against South Alabama already this season.
Megan Porter drives the Bobcat offense with 211.5 points and 188 kills. Micah Dinwiddie has accumulated 227 digs, and Madison Daigle has 68 total blocks.
For the Mavericks, Zhanelle Geathers leads with 198 kills while Qiana Canete steers the defense with 162 digs. Madison McConnell has 34 total blocks at the net.
