Flory Named Sun Belt Defensive Player of Week

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State inside linebacker Anthony Flory has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week following a nine-tackle, one-sack performance in the Mountaineers' 20-13 win at Texas State on Saturday.

Flory had a sack for an 8-yard loss on Texas State's second drive and another QB takedown just behind the line of scrimmage. He also was credited with two quarterback hurries.

A junior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Flory established a new career high for tackles as the Mountaineers held the Bobcats to six points on two field goals in four trips inside the red zone. His previous high of six tackles occurred in the 2017 opener at Georgia, his first career start.

Flory ranks third on App State's team with 16 tackles through three games. It's his first career player of the week honor and the first one for an App State linebacker since Kennan Gilchrist was recognized following a 35-10 home win against Texas State on Nov. 5, 2016.
