About the Mountaineers

The Apps are in the middle of a tough stretch of contests as ETSU and Wake Forest are a pair of NCAA Tournament teams on the Mountaineers' slate. Both teams are a combined 6-2-1 thus far, while the Demon Deacons are coming off an impressive run to the 2016 title game. App is coming off a valiant 1-0 loss in overtime to the
Bucs on Saturday. It was the first time this season App didn't score a goal, and every match this season has been decided by one goal or less.

Sun Belt Standings
The Mountaineers' 2-2-1 mark puts them currently at the top of the Sun Belt standings. App is one of two teams that don't have a losing record (Georgia State 3-2). Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern are tied for second with 2-3 records, and Georgia State, Hartwick (1-3) and Howard (0-4) round out the standings.

On Target
Sixteen of Appalachian's 29 shots have been on target through five matches thus far. Four different Mountaineers led by Marc Pfrogner have multiple shots on goal, while Pfrogner and Juan Hernandez are a combined 7-of-11 in SOG. App State is 2-0-1 when attempting near the net this season,  including a 10-for-24 mark against Central Arkansas and LIU Brooklyn through two contests.

Scouting Wake Forest (4-1-0)
The Demon Deacons are coming off a 4-1 win over Louisville in their first ACC match of the season. WF boasts one of best offenses in the country as its 17 goals and 3.4 goals per game is first in the nation. The second-ranked Demon Deacons have three student-athletes that have tallied at least 10 points with Jon Bakero leading the way with four goals and four assists to equal 12 points. Head coach Bobby Muuss is in his third season and has turned WF into a perennial power with a 40-7-5 mark, a national title appearance and an Elite Eight appearance in 2015.

Series History
WF owns a 20-2 mark all-time in the series with the Black and Gold. Last season, App fell to its in-state counterpart, 3-0.
