About the Mountaineers
The Apps are coming off their season opener in which they went toe-to-toe with a tough High Point squad. If it wasn't for an unlucky tip that barely went by Taylor Ray, the match could have gone the other or way or concluded to a draw. App had a few opportunities in the second half with three shots on goal and later a near miss by Kat Greer in the final minute where it would sail right at the open net.
On the Road
Appalachian begins its three-game road swing on Sunday against the Camels. Last season, App finished 5-5 on the road and boasted a 3-1 mark in the previous four matches away from the High Country dating back to last season.
Debuting for the Black and Gold
The Mountaineers had some newcomers make see some action in their first collegiate match with Lauren Burke playing the entire second half between the posts. Blair Anderes (23 minutes), Abbey Rand (14 minutes), Mary Perkins (8 minutes) and Amber Anderson (7 minutes) would all garner minutes on Friday in their debut.
Scouting the Camels
Campbell also got off to a 0-1 start after falling to College of Charleston on Friday, 1-0. The Camels had five shots on goal but couldn't convert it to any points on the board. Head coach Samar Azem is in her first year on the Campbell sidelines following a three-year stint as an assistant/associate coach for the Camels. In 2016, Campbell went 12-8 and 6-3 in conference play. Payton Ormsby and Shannon Wratchford return as the leading goal scorers with five each Ormsby also led the team with nine assists, equaling 19 points.
Series History
App and Campbell are playing for the first time since 2009 while the Camels own a 5-2-2 mark against App State.
