KANSAS CITY, Mo. –– Appalachian State University men's basketball's recent graduate Matt O' Boyle (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain/Pima Community College) was named to the 2016-17 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, announced on Tuesday.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria, which includes: academically a junior or senior and a varsity player, cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year and matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
O'Boyle graduated this past spring with a 3.37 grade point average and a degree in criminal justice. He will now pursue a Master's in public administration to eventually become a high ranking official in a government agency.
During the season, O'Boyle appeared in 22 games and made one start, logging seven minutes per contest and shooting 51.7 percent from the floor. He scored a season-high 10 points against Montreat on Dec. 11 on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from 3-point range.
