BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State Athletics and Carolina Radio Group have announced a three-year partnership for WAVO (1150 AM) and WCGC (1270 AM) to carry Appalachian Sports Network broadcasts in and around the Charlotte market beginning in the 2017 season, Director of Athletics
Doug Gillin announced on Monday.
The partnership adds two stations to the Appalachian Sports Network in the Charlotte area, one of the largest alumni and fan bases for Appalachian State. WAVO-AM 1150 is a 5,000-watt station based out of Rock Hill, South Carolina and WCGC-AM 1270 is a 10,000-watt station out of Belmont, North Carolina.
"Charlotte is a vital market for our students, alumni, parents and fans," Gillin said. "The Appalachian State brand continues to see amazing growth in the Charlotte market. The opportunity to add two stations to our coverage in the Charlotte area benefits our athletic program in numerous ways."
"We at the 5,000 watt WAVO (1150 AM) and 10,000 watt WCGC (1270 AM) are
truly excited about being the Charlotte-Market radio affiliate for ASU football this year and for years to come,"
Tom Gentry, General Manager at WAVO and WCGC said. "We've marveled at how App's football program has grown through the years. We are
extremely proud to be the Charlotte-Market radio affiliate for Mountaineer football."
Both stations will carry Appalachian State football game broadcasts, while also carrying "Mountaineer Talk," during football season each Tuesday night.
Appalachian State announced in April that WKBC will continue to be the ASN's flagship station for both football and basketball.
"The Voice of the Mountaineers"
Adam Witten and color commentator
Pierre Banks are back for the second season on the Appalachian Sports Network in 2017. The first broadcast of the season will be "Mountaineer Talk" with Head Football Coach
Scott Satterfield prior to the season opener at Georgia on Sept. 2.
