About the Mountaineers

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers trailed by just two going into the fourth quarter on Friday but the Bobcats pulled away with a 19-6 showing in the final frame to claim the 69-54 win. Tierra Wilson scored a team-high 14 points while Bayley Plummer netted her third straight double-double with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a game-best 10 rebounds. Maya Calder stepped up off the bench with career highs in points (9) and rebounds (9). Nicola Mathews would dish out a personal-high seven assists in a Black and Gold uniform. The Mountaineers held the Bobcats to a season-low four 3-pointers and 20 percent (4-of-20) shooting from 3-point range.

Calder Stepping Up
After her career night against TXST, Calder is now shooting 61.9 percent (13-of-21) over the last five games. She is averaging 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds during the same stretch, which shows the improvement she's made after putting up just 1.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in the first seven games of her career.

What to Watch for
• UTA is 2-5 this season when VanDijk commits three or more fouls. The post fouled out against Coastal Carolina on Friday. See if the Mountaineers can get the Preseason Player of the Year in foul trouble.
• The Mavericks are averaging 19.5 turnovers in their six losses this season. Appalachian forced 19.0 turnovers per game in its two wins. See if the defense can force some miscues for easy points on the other end.
• UTA is allowing teams to shoot an average of 22 free throws per game. Watch if Appalachian get to the line for some free points.
• Expect Nicola Mathews to return to her usual self from 3-point range after going 0-for-10 in the last two games. Mathews is 10th in the conference shooting from 3-point range and leads the team in the category at 36.8 percent.
• On top of Plummer's gaudy rebounding numbers, the sophomore is averaging 14.3 points on 53.1 percent shooting from the floor over the past three games. See if she can continue the impressive offensive numbers.
