Men's Soccer to Play Georgia Southern in SBC Tourney

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer will play No. 3 seed Georgia Southern in the first round of the 2017 Sun Belt Championship held in Conway

No. 6 App State vs. No. 3 Georgia Southern | Thursday, Nov. 9 | 4 p.m.  | Championship Information | Championship Bracket | Live Stats | Live Stream

About the Mountaineers
App State finished the year at 5-8-5 in with back-to-back defeats against two tough opponents against then-No. 24 and regular season Sun Belt champion and No. 3 seed Georgia Southern. Appalachian has done a great job of bouncing back as it hasn't lost three matches in a row all season. The Mountaineers were unlucky in their season finale as a goal from a penalty kick and a goal with two seconds left in the first half doomed the Black and Gold, giving GASO the 2-0 win. Juan Hernandez leads the way with two goals, while he is the only freshman in the conference to lead his team in scores. Reed Hunnicutt is also the only freshman to lead the team in assists. Jake Chasteen, Jake Agnew, and Mitch Kilmer have given the Black and Gold a deadly trio between the posts. Chasteen and Agnew both have sub 1.60 GAA with Chasteen amassing over 1,000 minutes in the frame and Agnew over 450. Kilmer has seen just 30 minutes of action this season but has played well in those minutes, allowing zero goals and coming up with one save. App State is 2-3 all-time in the Sun Belt Tournament, and it is the first time the Mountaineers are playing their archrival in the SBC Tournament.

Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles ended the season on a three-match win streak to the No. 3 seed in the postseason. GASO is 4-4 away from its home field this season. Blake Wilson leads the team with six goals and Javier Carbonell's eight assists is a team best. He also has recorded four goals, giving Carbonell an Eagle-high 16 points. Robert Flott has started in 12 matches this season, posting a 1.14 GAA and a .690 save percentage.
