App State to take on James Madison in Road Contest on Wednesday

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Appalachian State men's basketball will play its first true road game of the season, traveling to take on James Madison on Wednesday. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Convocation Center on the campus of JMU.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the sixth meeting between the two schools, with the Mountaineers holding a 4-1 edge in the series.
  • The last two matchups between the two teams have gone into overtime. Last season, the Apps outscored the Dukes 14-2 in the extra session en route to a 73-61 victory at the Holmes Center. In 2005-06, JMU posted a 81-79 double overtime victory on their home court.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • Appalachian State enters with a 3-2 mark on the season after posting a 76-72 win over UTEP to close out play at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach on Sunday.
  • O'Showen Williams tallied a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while Craig Hinton added a season-high 11 points in a reserve role.
  • Ronshad Shabazz scored all 12 of his points in the second half and needs just 10 more points to become the 32nd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
  • Shabazz also leads the team in scoring and ranks second in the Sun Belt, averaging 23.6 ppg. His scoring average also ranks 24th in the nation.
  • Justin Forrest is also averaging double figures at 14.2 ppg. He has scored in double figures in three of the teams first five games of the season.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
  • James Madison stands a 1-4 on the season after dropping all three contests at the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase.
  • Against UTSA on Sunday, Darius Banks scored a career-best 15 points, while Joey McLean added 14 points and Stuckey Mosley added 13.
  • Mosley is leading the team in scoring, averaging 16.4 ppg, with McLean also averaging double figures at 14.4 ppg.

  • App State will return to the Holmes Center for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with Davidson on Saturday.
