BOONE, N.C. – A Mountaineer Impact, A Drive for Excellence has received a generous gift of nearly a half-million dollars to establish a fully endowed football scholarship at Appalachian State University.
In concert with the gift, which is being given by an anonymous benefactor and App State graduate who has been a member of the Yosef Club since the 1970s, the scholarship will be geared toward student-athletes majoring in accounting or attending the Walker College of Business.
"We are thankful that members of the App State community continue to show a strong commitment to the future of our great university and the role athletics play in it," App State Director of Athletics
Doug Gillin said. "Scholarship endowments are critical to the future sustainability of Appalachian State Athletics. As we designed the Mountaineer Impact initiative, we developed an aggressive goal of doubling our endowments over the next five years. We are grateful for this gift of a fully endowed scholarship, as it truly shows support for our student-athletes and the vision for the future of App State Athletics."
A Mountaineer Impact was launched in February, and the project goal is to provide a solid financial foundation for the university's athletics programs by raising, over a five-year period, commitments of $60 million in private support. To date, more than $27 million has been committed toward the initiative.
Funds will be used to establish and endow scholarships, construct and enhance facilities and underwrite program needs to increase opportunities for comprehensive excellence for all student-athletes.
