Award Recipients (Men and Women)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Appalachian State University men's and women's soccer were recognized by United Soccer for their stellar performance inside the classroom, as both teams garnered team academic awards.
App State is one of 202 schools to have both programs make the list as you have to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. Based on the 2016-17 academic calendar, the men boasted a solid 3.20 cumulative GPA while the women earned a 3.36 cumulative GPA. In addition, Appalachian is one of three schools from the Sun Belt (Coastal Carolina, Georgia State) to have both programs recognized for their accomplishments.

Sarah Strickland said. "We have top-notch academic advisors and support staff that are critical in the girls receiving the assistance, tutoring and support that they need to be successful."
On the men's side, it's the 10th-straight year the Mountaineers have made the list while its the 12th year overall, and the women have made the list seven-straight years all coming since 2011.

Jason O'Keefe stated. "It is a great achievement and one in which really showcases the type of young men and student-athletes we have here at App State."
The women return to action tonight at 6 p.m. against archrival Georgia Southern for the annual "Pack the Mack" and Breast Cancer Awareness match, while the men begin conference action tomorrow against Howard on the road at 7 p.m.
