About the Mountaineers
Appalachian is coming off a 4-0 setback to a tough Texas State team on Sunday following a 1-1 tie against Arkansas State at home.
Kat Greer scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at a pivotal moment during the final few minutes to draw even during regulation against the Red Wolves. The Mountaineers and Bobcats fired off 45 total shots with 18 shots on goal. App State had some clean looks at the back of the frame, but it wasn't the Mountaineers' night on offense.
Promotions
The Mountaineers will host Eagles for homecoming weekend for their annual "Pack the Mack" and Breast Cancer Awareness match. Fans are encouraged to fill up the stands while also wearing pink in support for the fight against the deadly disease.
Creating Opportunities
The Mountaineers are creating chances to come away with goals, but haven't been able to get the ball in the back of the net. Over the last two matches, the Black and Gold have collected 13 shots on goal, which is the most over a two-match stretch this season. Also, the Apps have a .448 shot on goal percentage during the stretch, well above the season average of .372. If App gets going on offense, the team will be a force to be reckoned with over the last five matches of the season.
Greer Scorer
Greer has been clutch all season long as all four of her goals have either given App the lead or tied up the match. The junior forward has three scores in the past five games while she has recorded a shot on goal in five-straight matches. Her four goals are tied for fifth in the Sun Belt Conference.
Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles head into the match losing three of their past four contests but are coming off a 2-1 win over Arkansas State in their most recent matchup. Frida Brattum leads the team with four goals while Juvenia Hylton and Aussin Nicole are each second with a pair of scores. GS has struggled on the road with a 1-3 mark and has been outscored, 9-3, over the four road contests.
Series History
App State is 14-15-1 in the all-time series against its archrival, including back-to-back wins by one goal in the previous two matchups. Appalachian dealt Georgia Southern a 3-2 defeat in last season's contest.
What's Next
Appalachian will have six days off before it plays a pair of road matches against Little Rock and Louisiana, respectively. The Apps and Trojans will kickoff on Friday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. (EST) in Little Rock.
