Field Hockey Hosts No. 15 Wake Forest

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey (4-7, 1-3 MAC) will host its second ACC opponent this season when No. 15 Wake Forest (6-5, 2-2 ACC) comes up the mountain for a midweek tilt on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

About the Mountaineers
An overtime goal by Meghan Smart led App State to a 2-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, Oct. 1. That score was Smart's third of the season and Taylor Cimbalist also scored for the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers dropped a 4-1 decision at Longwood on Saturday, Sept. 30. The lone App State goal was scored by Rebecca McLean, her first goal of the season.

Taylor Cimbalist leads App State with seven goals, 16 points, 22 shots and 15 shots on goal. She is tied for fourth in the MAC in total goals and is fifth in total points. Including Cimbalist, five different Moutaineers have scored this year: Ali Williams (3), Meghan Smart (3), Rebecca McLean (1) and Veerle Van Heertum (1). Goalkeeper Rachel Gaines averages 7.09 saves per game with 78 total saves, both a good for second in the league.

Scouting the Demon Deacons
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are ranked 15th in the NFHCA poll and are fifth in the ACC with a 2-2 record. The Deacons hold a 4-4 record against ranked teams with wins over Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio State and Syracuse.

Leading the Deacons on offense is Jule Grashoff who has scored a team-high eight goals with five assists. Right behind her is Karynne Baker who has two goals along with two assists. Isla Bint has served as the primary goalkeeper for Wake Forest, accumulating 643:04 minutes between the posts. She has made 39 saves while allowing 18 goals.

Quick Note
Appalachian State has the second highest RPI among MAC teams, just seven spots below Longwood. Out of 78 Division I teams, the Mountaineers are ranked 48th, ahead of Kent State (49), Ball State (51), Miami (59), Ohio (68) and Central Michigan (73).
