First-Time Letter Winners Receive Jackets From FAA

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State Athletics recently awarded letter jackets to first-time letter winners from the 2017 spring sports season.

The Former Athletes Association (FAA) sponsors jacket ceremonies twice a year, including the one held last week in the Appalachian Athletics Center. Director of Athletics Doug Gillin addressed the crowd and congratulated the letter winners before FAA Vice President Ken Davis talked to the student-athletes about the significance of being a letter winner.

A combined 32 student-athletes in wrestling, baseball, softball, women's golf, men's golf, women's tennis, men's tennis, women's track and field and men's track and field received their first Block A letter.

App State upperclassmen Tristan Helms, who plays baseball for the Mountaineers, and Jenny Dodd, who plays softball for the Mountaineers, also addressed the crowd to share stories about their experiences at App State and offer advice on balancing life as a student and athlete at the collegiate level.
