DURHAM, N.C. -
Appalachian State University men's tennis concluded the ITA Regionals with a strong showing this week, posting five wins in the event hosted by Duke.

App State  would face some of the toughest opponents in the field from schools such as North Carolina State, Clemson, Charlotte, East Carolina, and Coastal Carolina.

"I thought we had a great showing from the guys at the tournament," head coach Bob Lake said. "Scott (Webster) and Milo (Bargeron) both picked up some tough wins in singles, and I'm glad that Scott and Ben were able to get a win together as a team. I think it was a great experience for Spencer (Brown) and Ben to play the guys they did. It will make them better players as we continue through the year. We have one more tournament, so I'm excited to see how we do in two weeks at Charleston."

Senior Scott Webster had another strong run in his third ITA Regionals Tournament as he advanced to the Round of 16, defeating some tough opponents from Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, and UNCW. Webster dealt Juan Castellanos (6-0, 6-2) a straight-set defeat before downing Will Bissett from ECU a 6-1, 6-2 loss to face Andres Torres of UNC Wilmington. The 14th-seeded Webster registered a valiant 7-6 (1), 7-5 victory over Torres to move onto the Sweet 16 for a second consecutive season. Facing the 25th-seeded Simon Baudry (Clemson), Webster fought back from a 6-1 first set defeat to capture the second set, 6-2, and force a match-breaking third frame, where Baudry would win, 6-1.

So far, Webster has been on a tear in the past two tournaments, capturing the consolation finals bracket at the ITA Oracle Masters Tournament in California, and now a Round of 16 appearance at the ITA Regionals.

Milo Bargeron had an impressive tournament where he picked up a first-round win over Lukas Schaefer of Campbell, who led the Camels with 23 wins in his junior season. Bargeron won impressively in three sets over one of the top student-athletes in the Big South. However, Bargeron's run didn't get any easier, facing the 15th seed in the Tournament in Clemson's Alex Favrot. Bargeron fell to Favrot, who would go on to finish runner-up in the tournament.

Spencer Brown and Ben Webster would compete in singles action. However, the two gained valuable experience in their first-ever ITA event. Webster and Brown both fell in the first round to opponents from Charlotte, while the pair would play against tough opponents in the back draw versus foes from North Carolina State and Clemson, respectively.

In doubles play, both the tandem of both Websters were seeded ninth overall in the bracket and captured a two-set 6-4, 6-4, victory against Gabriel Dias and Josh Ryan of Winthrop. In the second round, it took three sets from ECU's Kasey Countee and Freddie McGeehan to dispatch the tandem from Australia.

Alex Pavkovich and Bargeron teamed up in the first round but fell to their counterparts against Gardner-Webb.

Appalachian will end the fall season Oct. 27-29 at the College of Charleston Invite.
