About the Mountaineers
Appalachian is coming off an exhilarating 1-0 overtime win over UNC Asheville on Tuesday in the first of three-straight home matches.
Juan Hernandez had a pass dribble off the defender to
John Walrath before the senior found the back of the net to lift App to the win. It was Walrath's first goal of the season and his first score in two seasons. It was also the third-straight shutout for App and the fourth in the past six matches. Appalachian has not allowed a goal in 304-straight minutes dating back to the Sept. 26 contest against then-No. 19 Duke, while the last time Appalachian allowed a goal at home was on Sept. 9 against ETSU.
Nationally Ranked
The Mountaineers' stingy defense has moved up the ranks in the nation, as their .933 goals against average is 47th in the nation and their .782 save percentage is 37th in the country.
Jake Chasteen's four shutouts are ranked 43rd in the nation as well. App State is one of two teams (Georgia State) to post a GAA under one, and are tied with the Panthers for the most shutouts in the league.
Home Sweet Home
The win on Tuesday surpassed last season's win total at Ted Mack, improving to 3-1-2. Three of the Mountaineers' shutouts have come at home while they have allowed just three goals in six matches. The last time App won at least three home matches was in 2015 when the Black and Gold finished 5-5.
