App State Hosts Western Carolina in Home Opener

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (0-3) will look for its first win of the season in the home opener at Deer Valley Racquet Club against Western Carolina (1-1). Serve is set for 2 p.m.

App State is coming off a 5-2 setback at UNC Asheville last weekend. The Mountaineers captured the doubles points winning all three doubles matches. However, App would only capture one singles point that led to the Bulldogs' win.

Appalachian has been successful in doubles play this season, boasting a 5-2 (.714) in the first three matches of the season. The duos of Megan Mullen/Gabrielle Wreder and Heidi Swope/McKayla Zupan are both 2-1 thus far and Melissa Machado/Rebecca Morse winning their first match together in Asheville.

Machado and Swope are the lone Mountaineers with singles points this season.

Western Carolina is 1-1 through its first two matches, defeating Lindsey Wilson (4-3) before falling to Eastern Kentucky (4-3).

The Catamounts are 6-6 in singles play and 3-3 in doubles competition. Elizabeth Ansari is 2-0 as the No. 6, leading the team in wins. Ansari and Madison Riley are 2-0 in doubles play to lead the team.

Appalachian will begin a six-match road trip on Saturday at East Carolina. First serve is set for 10 a.m. in Greenville.
