Will Raby

Will Raby returned to Appalachian State in the fall of 2017 to pursue a master's degree in history.
 
A member of the Appalachian State cross country and track and field teams from 2009-2013, he will assist his former coach, Mike Curcio, in coaching the men's and women's distance runners. Raby was a five-time All-Southern Conference performer and the 2011 outdoor champion in the 5,000 meters. He helped lead the Mountaineers to their sixth consecutive Southern Conference cross country title in 2010 and competed on three Southern Conference champion track teams.
 
At the 2012 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Raby broke the school record in the indoor 5,000 meters with a time of 14:30.43. He is ranked fifth all-time at App State in the indoor 3,000 meters at 8:22.65, second in the indoor 5,000 meters at 14:30.43 and sixth in the cross country 8K at 24:41.
 
Raby grew up in Charlotte and returned there after college to work for three years at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a business analyst. He attended McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he set the school record in the 3,200 meters, was a six-time all-state performer and helped the Blue Tornado to the 2006 TSSAA Division II state cross country championship.
 
After graduate school, Raby intends to become a high school history teacher and track coach.
