DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The final round of the 2021 Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship was canceled Tuesday as the course was deemed unplayable. App State's two-round score of 605 resulted in a ninth-place finish for the Mountaineers to close out the 2020-21 campaign.
Final scores, both team and individual, were determined based on the results entering day three's final round. Coastal Carolina was awarded both the individual, sophomore Sophia Carlsen, and team titles with its day-two surge up the leaderboard.
The Mountaineers posted back-to-back season team low rounds, an opening-round of 303 and a 302 during Monday's second round. App State finished just seven strokes back of a top-five team effort.
"It was certainly disappointing that we could not finish today, especially with four out of five seniors," head coach
Heather Brown said. "With fifth to ninth place separated by only a few shots, we had a real chance to make a move today. The kids showed a lot of heart and hustle this week in extremely tough conditions. They hung tough in both rounds, which is all a coach can ask for."
Senior
Sarah Hardin paced the Black and Gold with a two-day total of 149, tying for 17th. Hardin opened with 1-over 73 to post the best round among the Mountaineer starting five.
Graduate student
Melany Chong tied for 27th behind a second-round 75, giving her a final score of 151.
Senior
Abby Bolt led the entire 55-player field in par-three scoring at 2-under-par. Bolt finished tied for 29th with a 36-hole total of 154.
Senior
Carrie Catherine Ganim cut three stokes off her day one score to effectively place in a tie for 31st, totaling a 153 score.
Junior
Kayla Ward entered the clubhouse with a 156 final score to tie for 41st.
