Women's Soccer Comes up Just Short at Western Carolina, 1-0

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's soccer was unable to get on the board Friday night, falling in the season finale 1-0 at Western Carolina.

ASU drops to 6-9-4 overall and 3-5-3 in the Southern Conference while the Catamounts improved to 8-6-5 overall and 5-3-3 in conference play.

Erin Hamilton put Western on the board in the 42nd minute off a cross pass from Kayla Beauduy.  The goal was Hamilton's first of the season.

Western held a slim 14-13 edge in shots and both teams had several scoring opportunities.

In the seventh minute Paige Morrow got a shot on goal but Caitlin Williams was able to make the stop.  Four minutes later Katie Kole got a shot on goal but Emma White made the stop for ASU.

In the 31st minute, the Mountaineers' were able to get three shots in a row, two by Hannah Coad, one went wide right and the other was stopped by Williams.

In the final minute Taylor Dunlap sent in a corner kick but ASU was unable to get any shots off.

With her 19th start of the season, Leigh Morrow broke the school record for career starts with 76.  Morrow started every game in her career, breaking the record set by Ashton Robinson.

All six seniors for Appalachian started, including White, Paige and Leigh Morrow, Caroline Lowe, Stephanie Balzano and Jennifer MacNeill.

White made three saves in the first half while Caroline Clarke played the second half and made two saves.  Williams made three saves for Western.
