Appalachian State has a 13-6 record against the Highlanders in a series that began in 1985.
The Mountaineers claimed a 5-1 win at Radford on April 3 after sweeping the Highlanders last season. Earlier this year,
Kendall McGowan gave App State a first-inning boost with a two-run homer, and pitcher
Brandon Boone struck out six batters while allowing one run on four hits in a career-best seven innings.
PUTTING BOONE ON THE MAP
Brandon Boone, a junior right-hander, is set to make his 11th start of the season and his fourth start in Boone. He has a 3.33 ERA in a starting role, as he's allowed 18 earned runs through 48.2 innings.
A month after picking up the win at Radford, Boone struck out six batters and allowed two hits in six shutout innings against North Carolina A&T during his most recent start on May 2. The Mountaineers won that game 2-0 and didn't have a midweek game last week.
Boone is the first Appalachian pitcher to start two team shutouts in the same season since Taylor Thurber did so in 2015. Boone also had six scoreless innings in a 6-0 win at N.C. Central on March 13.
He went 7-0 with a 2.48 ERA and 75 strikeouts (10.33 per game) at Brunswick Community College in 2017.
