BOONE, N.C. – Due to field conditions and weather forecasts, Appalachian State softball will head down the mountain to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a midweek doubleheader against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, April 25. Game one will begin at 5 p.m. with game two to follow at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers are 8-9 all-time against the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs. The last matchup was in 2011 when the Mountaineers took home the 10-0 win.
App State is coming off of a 2-0 shutout against Sun Belt opponent South Alabama.
Kenzie Longanecker claimed the win on the road to improve the Mountaineers to a 15-29 overall record with a 3-15 Sun Belt record. App State is 7-14 in road games while Gardner-Webb is 22-11.
Scouting the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs were swept by Radford most recently in a Big South conference series. Their overall record is 27-23 with an 8-10 conference record.
Among the opponents that App State has faced this season, Gardner-Webb has also seen N.C. Central (3-1) and Western Carolina (2-0).
Andria Booth and Katie Prebble both lead the Bulldogs in the batter's box, each batting above .400 with a .482 and .432 batting average respectively. Prebble, a freshman, holds a slugging percentage at 1.030 with a .524 on-base percentage. She leads the nation with 22 home runs. She has contributed 67 RBI and 43 runs for the Bulldogs of their 286 total runs.
Ashley Wark has pitched 152.2 innings to head up Gardner-Webb's pitching staff. She has a 16-13 record with a 4.81 ERA. Sam Harrell and Laken Myers have also contributed innings for the Bulldogs. Myers is 6-5 with 75.2 innings and a 3.79 ERA. Harrell has a 6.51 ERA with a 4-5 record on 66.2 innings pitched.
