BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's basketball sophomore
Bayley Plummer garnered a second postseason award on Tuesday, as she was named second-team all-state by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).
Plummer collects the award after posting a breakout season where she more than doubled her numbers across the board from her freshman campaign. She nets the second-team all-state honor along with her Sun Belt All-Third Team award.
The Thomasville, N.C., native led the team, the Sun Belt and was 13th in the nation in rebounding with an average of 11.5. The rebounding clip was the fifth highest in a single season in program history, while her 355 rebounds set a sophomore record, surpassing the previous sophomore mark of 328 set by Valorie Whiteside in 1985-86. It was also the second-highest mark in a season overall and made Plummer just one of five student-athletes all-time to post at least 300 rebounds in a campaign.
Not only was Plummer a force on the glass, but she was a double-double machine tying a league high with 13 games of at least 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Highlighting her 13 double-doubles was her monster outing of a career-high 18 points, 19 rebounds, and tied a personal best with five blocks and four assists in the First Round Sun Belt Tournament win over Arkansas State.
She also had an outing against Marshall with a then-career-best 16 points, 18 rebounds, and three swats. For her performance, she was named to NCAA.com's Starting Five. She joined some of the top players across the nation in Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M), Brooke McCarty (Texas), Teaira McCowan (Mississippi State), and Jessica Shepard (Notre Dame). Both McCowan and Shepard participated in this season's national title game.
Appalachian won back-to-back conference tournament games for the first time since the 2011-12/2012-13 seasons. The Mountaineers are expected to return a complete roster that was the only team in the Sun Belt to not start a junior or senior.
