Brian Simerville Named Head Football Athletic Trainer

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State has announced that Brian Simerville has been named head football athletic trainer.

Simerville comes to the High Country after spending the last four seasons at the University of Maryland as an assistant athletic trainer. While at Maryland, he worked as the athletic trainer with the football program, while serving as the insurance coordinator for the department.

"I would like to officially welcome Brian to our staff and the town of Boone," said Director of Athletic Training Services Jon Mitchell. "His knowledge and experience will be a valuable addition to our Sports Medicine Team as we strive to provide the highest quality medical care to our student-athletes."

Prior to Maryland, Simerville worked at the United State Naval Academy as the men's ice hockey head athletic trainer and assistant athletic trainer for football. He also has worked for Florida Southern, South Florida and Eckerd.

Simerville also has other experience which includes serving as an athletic trainer at the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships in 2015 and also working as the host athletic trainer for the Division I Women's Basketball Tournament in 2015 and 2016. He also served as the athletic trainer for Maryland's men's lacrosse team on an interim basis in 2017. While working with the Maryland men's lacrosse program, he played large role in helping the Terrapins capture the national championship.

Simerville holds numerous certifications and earned his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Eastern Michigan. He also obtained his Master of Arts Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science from South Florida.
