Women's Tennis Hosts UAB

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (8-4) will look for a sixth straight win and remain undefeated at home on Tuesday against UAB (6-9) at Deer Valley Racquet Club.

App State had six days off after defeating Savannah State, 6-1, in Savannah for a fifth-straight win. Taylor Bygrave and Rebecca Morse won their first match as a pairing this season to clinch the doubles point, while Bygrave sealed the win for the Black and Gold in singles action.

Four different Mountaineers are on win streaks of at least four matches in singles play. María José Zacarias has won an impressive six straight contests at the No. 1 spot for a team-best 8-3 record. Teodora Sevo and Melissa Machado are a perfect 4-0 over their last four affairs and boast identical 7-3 marks. Machado is already at the same win mark as her total from last season. Bygrave is 7-4 on the year, while Morse matched her career best in singles wins last week with her fifth consecutive win, also a personal best.

During the five straight wins, App is an impressive 26-4 (.867) in singles play capturing five of six or all six matches. Overall, the Black and Gold are 39-28 (.582).

In doubles play, the Mountaineers haven't dropped a doubles point since Feb. 4 to Old Dominion, a run of six contests in a row. Machado and Sevo are 9-2 with victories in their last five affairs, Heidi Swope and Zacarias are 7-3 as a tandem, while Emily Gaskins and Sandra Anglesjö are 4-4.

UAB is 6-9 on the season coming off a 4-1 loss to Western Kentucky in its most recent matchup, which stopped a 3-0 stretch. UAB is 5-3 at home but just 1-6 away from its home court. Marlene Herrmann leads the way with a 7-4 record in singles play. She is one of three players with at least five wins. Megan Bertrands and Jana Hecking are both 5-5 to round out the leaders and give the visitors a 30-35 showing in singles.

Herrmann and Sonia GrzyWocz' 7-6 doubles record leads a UAB team that has thrown out 11 different pairing on the court. The Blazers are 19-20 (.487) in doubles play.
