BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis (5-4) will host its second-straight match on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they face the College of Charleston (7-2) at Deer Valley Racquet Club.
The Mountaineers have won back-to-back matches for the first time this season, defeating both Campbell and UNC Asheville 6-1 in the last two matches. After the 6-1 home-opening win against Asheville, Appalachian now looks to enjoy its next two matches at home. With a win, App will have won three straight matches for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign when the Black and Gold captured four straight contests.
Against Asheville, Appalachian secured the doubles point for the third straight match and then rattled off five wins in six matches to cruise to victory.
In singles play,
Taylor Bygrave and
Teodora Sevo lead the team with 5-3 records. Four Mountaineers have won two matches in a row.
In doubles competition, App is 15-8 with the pairing of Sevo and
Melissa Machado boasting a 7-2 and is currently riding a three-match winning streak. For the first time this season,
Sandra Anglesjö and
Taylor Bygrave teamed up against Asheville and downed their Bulldog opponents 6-4.
Five different Mountaineers have at least three victories and three players with five wins. Bygrave and Sevo are 5-3 while
María José Zacarias is also 5-3. Zacarias has won her last three matches.
Scouting College of Charleston
The Cougars are having a solid start and have won six of their last seven matches following a win over USC Upstate. CofC's lone losses are against St. John's and Wake Forest. Going into Sunday, CofC has a 39-16 mark in singles play and a 16-8 record in doubles action.
