App State Hosts Inaugural Legends Gala - VIEW PHOTOS
BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State athletics hosted its inaugural Legends Gala on Friday night. Held at the breathtaking mountain resort of Camp Yonahnoka, located at The Eseeola Lodge at Linville Golf Club in Linville, N.C.
Former Appalachian State head coach and coach of the 2005 National Champion Texas Longhorns,
Mack Brown, was the keynote speaker for the event. Brown closed the night speaking on his time at App State and closing with the importance of leadership in athletics and supporting the program. App alum and Clemson play-by-play voice
Don Munson served as emcee for the evening.
NFL Hall of Famer
Bob Griese and
Ben Sutton of ISP/IMG joined a number of the biggest and most pivotal names in Appalachian athletic history for the event. Legendary head football coach
Jerry Moore, current head coach
Scott Satterfield, former basketball coach
Bobby Cremins, two-time Olympic medalist
Melissa Morrison-Howard, former NFL standout and All-Americans
Dino Hackett and
Larry Hand, current NFL players
Doug Middleton and
Kendall Lamm, current Panthers' defensive coordinator
Steve Wilks, and former App State head football coach
Sparky Woods joined a crowd of 200, including a number of current App State student-athletes and head coaches, to enjoy an the elegant evening set lakeside to a backdrop of Grandfather Mountain and Linville Golf Club.
"I would like to thank all of our legends, guests, and donors for making this a remarkable and memorable evening for Appalachian State," Director of Athletics,
Doug Gillin said. "A special thanks to
Mack Brown for his impact on the evening. We're also grateful to our sponsors and donors who made a financial impact on App State athletics through the gala. For a first-time event, the night was rousing success and look forward to making it even better next summer."
The gala will become an annual event for the Appalachian State Athletics and will be held in June again next year. The exact date will be announced at a later time.
